Helpful Steps to Happiness

Happiness - a word so profound and so elusive, the one thing that everybody would dire to achieve. For many it could mean money, for some it could mean the family, yet others still believe that it actually is a state of mind regardless of how much money you have or how well your family can be.

The quest for happiness can be a tough learning experience. Considering the many aspects of our lives, the situations surrounding us, how can one be truly happy when all these affects people mentally, emotionally and physically?  And when being truly happy means having to have a healthy state of these three?

Happiness could probably not exist without those bouts of broken feelings at one time or another. Moreover, the journey of getting to that point in our lives of truly being happy definitely does not happen overnight. In fact, for some, the realization could take a lifetime.

Sometimes when jokes are not of much help, we have to be kinder to ourselves and realize that it is not always about having such a bad day and doing all the wrong things. Food and genes sometimes are contributors for these feelings.

Our genes contribute to everyone's  temperament, which is one of the components that defines our personalities. So for all those times that you cannot  seem to understand on how you reacted to a situation given that you knew that it was not appropriate can be traced back to our temperaments, which are passed genetically. Definitely, you can control the behavior that you are not too proud about, but before that you have to be aware of the main cause and resolve to do something about it.

Another thing that has to be considered is the food that we eat. All those sugars, caffeine and fats are usual culprits for the dreaded sluggish feeling mentally and physically. These foods are sometimes not processed properly by our system thus leading to sluggishness.

Lack of physical activity can also contribute to this “unhappy” feeling. According to studies, during exercise the body secretes the “happy substance”. Aerobic exercises allow the body to release the good endorphins that makes people feel good. Thus a gentle yet regular exercise is an essential step towards a healthier body and a happier mind.

Aside from these activities that nourish us physically, it is most important that the brain gets its dose of the healthy diet as well. It should be a conscious effort to block all negativities. The brain should be fed with positive and beautiful things. With all of life’s stresses listening to a favorite music, reading great books and watching wonderful movies is like taking your brain to a grand vacation that it so deserves to have.

Mind exercises are also available for improved mind health. One of the most popular is meditation. This according to studies and practitioners improved their over-all mind health and moods. This is one way to refresh, relax and rest the mind.

Good breathing also cannot be taken for granted. Proper practice of the good breathing delegates proper oxygen to the system and it improves the coordination between the mind and body.

Defining happiness can be difficult, but achieving it proves to be more challenging and hard work. Happiness does not come as it pleases. You have to work for and work on it. Studies have been made to help people with their quest for happiness in the most natural way. Things that are sometimes taken for granted are those that can contribute a lot. Sometimes people tend to look at the other side of the fence not paying enough attention on how they could improve their own yard.

Happiness may be elusive but it can be achieved. Sometimes our weaknesses just get in the way of our focus and goal. However, no matter what, happiness is just a state of mind. It is a choice, you may have to consciously work for it but later  these ways may come naturally. Life is a gift. We just have to see it positively and embrace whatever it has to give. Good sense of self, humility and love for others is the key.
